Here’s my ENTIRE process for learning (and retaining) songs quickly. Thanks to Premier Guitar for having me write this article! The full article can be read here!
There’s a video to accompany the article as well. This is me, in real life, learning The Highwomen song “Redesigning Women” for a performance with some of their ranks at Maren’s show on 10/18/19 at Ascend Amphitheater. I do most of my song learning in my car, without touching an instrument. Here, I take you step by step through the process, beginning with Critical Listening, ear training, learning (AND SINGING) the bass line, charting the song using the Nashville Number System in real time, and finally, playing the song for the first time, live on camera. Woo doggy!
Please refer to the article at Premier Guitar’s website to fully gauge the process. There you can see my number chart as well as a “fake book” chart I painstakingly wrote out for those of you who would like to compare a nashville number chart to a more traditional chart. I’m hopeful this will demonstrate to folks how the Nashville number system works and why it’s so much easier and faster than writing traditional charts!
Happy jamming, friends!
Love,
Clem
